'''''Ride of the Valkyries''''' (German Walkürenritt) is probably the best known piece by Richard Wagner. It is from Die Walküre and has been used to great effect in a wide variety of films, from the helicopter scene in Apocalypse Now to being lampooned in What's Opera, Doc?, to the spa sequence in Fellini's 8½. Wagner's opera dealt with the Valkyrie Brunhilde and her love for the warrior Siegfried. The ride which occurs at the start of Act III, Scene 1 in the opera includes a sometimes showy and very romantic aria sung by Brunnhilde. By its excess and flourishes it can be compared to the very classical aria sung by the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute.
